Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory has been providing funeral and cremation services to Northwestern Illinois and Northeastern Iowa for over 140 years. Its founder, Edwin B. Knox, was an Illinois native who was at one time mayor of Moline and helped to revitalize the city’s downtown area. In 1945, his funerary duties were transferred to Dorothy and Riley Trimble, close family friends, and Trimble Funeral Home and Crematory received its current name. We provide cremation and funeral services to families in Davenport, Iowa City, West Liberty and all surrounding towns in Iowa.
The Trimble family has been committed to the Quad City area since then, despite multiple relocation due to changing times. In 2014, the state of Illinois forced the business to move for a civic project (the I-74 Mississippi River Bridge). The Trimble family responded by building the modern Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, a development that offers funeral-planning sites, reception areas, and a veteran support center to locals. The family hopes that they can move forward with this development as their permanent location.
Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory offers several flexible and affordable alternatives to traditional funerary and crematory services. It is hoped that families of different incomes and beliefs can be served well through this flexibility. One such alternative to traditional burial is direct cremation. During direct cremation, the body is not prepared or embalmed in any way for a viewing. Instead, the body is taken right to cremation; this takes fewer resources and less time, making the service more affordable.
Because direct cremation costs are more affordable for many families, they take away the financial worry from many funerary decisions. Direct cremation is also considered a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional burial services; it does not take up the land resources that burial typically does. For this reason, it is becoming increasingly popular as funerary traditions change in the nation and across the world.
Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory is proud to serve the families of Davenport, Iowa. This city is just across the Illinois border, and is located in the Quad City area. Davenport is in fact the largest of the Quad Cities and sits on the Mississippi River. It is located about halfway between Des Moines and Chicago, two major Midwestern cities. It provides a strong connection between both the states of Illinois and Iowa — and the rest of the nation. Davenport’s center is the crossroads of four interstates and two major American highways; it is not difficult to see why its population has been growing considerably in the last 50 years. Despite its large population, it still hosts acres and acres of natural landmarks, including 50+ parks and facilities. The city is also bike- and pedestrian-friendly, as it offers over 20 miles of recreation walking/biking trails. If you are a resident of Davenport or Iowa City, and need cremation services for your loved one near you, call Trimble Funeral Home one of the most trusted funeral and cremation services in Northeast Iowa.
Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory also provides services to residents in Muscatine, Iowa, which is the seat of Muscatine County. This city was founded in 1833 as a European-American trading post (started by Colonel George Davenport), and now it is a bustling metropolis on the Mississippi River. It shares strong connections with its neighboring cities, including Davenport, which shares the name of its founder.
Points of interest in Muscatine include the Mississippi Riverfront, several historical houses, and a number of art museums and community centers. The city boasts 260 degrees of riverfront, due to its placement on a major bend of the river. Visitors also may be interested in Kent Stein Park, which houses the notable Tom Bruner Field. Several famous individuals have come from the city of Muscatine, including Lee Allen (medical illustrator), Norman G. Baker (radio broadcaster), and two governors (Ralph P. Lowe of Iowa and James Bradley Orman of Colorado).
Part of the Muscatine metropolitan area includes West Liberty, a small city off I-80. Its downtown is registered as being on the National Register of Historic Places, and is considered a formidable cultural area. The downtown includes a historical movie theater built in 1910, two dance studios, an arts committee, and the Rock City depot that was built in 1890. The city also hosts yearly puppet shows in its historic Eulenspiegel Puppet Theater.
Yearly in July, West Liberty is the host of the Muscatine County Fair and has its own dedicated fairgrounds with a complete raceway. Besides the county fair, the city also hosts multiple outdoor events in this area, including Summer Music in the Park, Picnic in the Park, and the Fair Parade that precedes the county fair. Eight city parks are scattered across West Liberty, including Dutton Park and the Friendship Park.
Just east of West Liberty lies Wilton, Iowa, a small town formerly known as Wilton Junction. It also has similarly impressive cultural landmarks, including a historical train depot and the ‘oldest ice cream parlor in the nation’ (Wilton Candy Kitchen, built in 1867). Its train depot originally connected to Chicago and other national landmarks when it was first built but now only serves as a historical landmark. Looking for funeral home and cremation near you? Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory is a family-owned business that has served the Moline, Illinois, and Scott County, Iowa regions for 141 continuous years. The founder, Edwin B. Knox, began the business in March of 1874. In 1908, Edwin’s son, Luther, joined his father in the business and they relocated the business to Fifth Avenue in Moline. In 1923, they purchased the former Barber residence and converted it into a funeral home. It was one of the earliest examples of the ‘funeral home’ concept in their area.
After the death of Edwin in 1928, Luther eventually sold the funeral home to Dorothy and Riley Trimble in 1945. Their son, Eric R. Trimble, current president and Funeral Director, joined his parents in the business upon graduation from Cornell College and the University Of Minnesota Department of Mortuary Science.
Today, they offer many services to their local community. In 2015, they received the Innovation Award from the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce, for their ‘display of creativity and innovation.’ As a business, they helped develop the reputation of the Iowa-Illinois Quad Cities’ area as a wonderful, family-oriented, creative place to live. They can provide you with family services you need when honoring life, as well as provide resources for grief support.
Direct cremation is only one of the many funeral-related services offered by Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory. This environmentally friendly option is becoming preferred over cremation or traditional funeral services for several reasons. Because there is no land disturbed for a burial, this is considered to be an eco-friendly option. With direct cremation, the remains are not embalmed prior to cremation, thus there is no viewing beforehand. As there is no expense for a casket or professional hair and makeup preparation, the cremation costs can be greatly reduced. After direct cremation, you can still have a memorial service, with the ashes present, to honor your loved one.

Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory has been in the business of caring for families for over 140 years. Originally known as E.B. Knox, Picture Framing and Undertaking, the business closed their picture framing and art supply portion of their business after 34 years to focus solely on undertaking. Changing their name to E.B. About 20 years after his father’s death, Luther sold the business to the Trimble family, who has owned and operated Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory since July 1, 1945. The Trimble family continues to strive to serve their community with the highest sense of respect and understanding.
Direct cremation is one of the services provided by Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory. Cremation is steadily becoming a more popular tradition in the United States for a number of reasons.
One reason is the affordability of direct cremation: cremation costs are much lower than other options, as embalming is not necessary. Another reason is the ability to create a new tradition or personalize the ceremony more than a traditional service.
It is important to note that cremations are done with total respect for the deceased. All direct cremations are completed in a carefully controlled system in a process that takes less than three hours. There is still the option to have a memorial after a cremation with the ashes present.
