It is with deep sorrow that we announce that our father, Mr. George “Buddy” Cheek, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at home in Bluffton, SC. He was 85. Buddy was born on January 26, 1939 in Abbeville, SC. He graduated from Abbeville High School.
As a young man, he began opening and managing a retail store chain. However, being a salesman at heart, he dove into investments and insurance for several years in Asheville, NC. claiming multiple national top sales awards with IDS. While building log cabins piqued his interest in Asheville as a hobby, he had a love affair with sailing, sailing won out and off to the Coast he went. He moved to Hilton Head in the early 80’s and became a real estate developer and home builder as well as owning several businesses including an ERA Real Estate franchise, a mortgage co, a building co, a stucco co, etc. He retired to Florida where he spent most of his time on his boat (most favored hobby of all, besides family) at the Conch House Marina in St. Augustine Fl. right down the street from his home there.
Buddy retired from the South Carolina National Guard with 26 years of Service.
He was married to the late Margaret Campbell Cheek of Calhoun Falls, SC and is survived by his children, Kelly Cheek of Summerville, SC, John Cheek of Bluffton, SC, and Jodi Easton of Guyton, Ga. And his grandchildren, Dustin Grant, Felicia Callantine, Zoe Lazicki, and great grandchildren, Jada Mae Grant, Maddox Callantine, and Kelsey Callantine.
