After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, our beloved mother, Barbara Kay Daniel Boren, passed away peacefully on March 1 in Covington, LA surrounded by family. She was 85 years old.

Kay is survived by her children, Elizabeth Boren Carroll (Scott) and William Thomas Boren (Jill); her brother, Gerald Daniel (Reva); seven grandchildren, Katy Carr Ritchie (Tanner), John Michael Carr, Halle Boren, Hannah Boren, Harper Boren, Rhett Carroll (Madison) and Austen Carroll. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Thomas Barkley Boren, and her parents, Oliver Howell Daniel and Sadie Rew Hollingsworth Daniel.

Kay was born on December 14, 1939, in Morton, Mississippi and was raised in Greenville, MS. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1957. After marrying her high school sweetheart and finishing their undergraduate degrees at the University of Southern Mississippi, Kay and Tommy moved to Tuscaloosa, AL for Tommy to finish his masters degree. Kay and Tommy then moved to Meridian, Mississippi where they raised their family. Kay later completed her Masters in Education degree from the MSU campus in Meridian, Mississippi. She taught in the Meridian City School System for 25 years. After retirement, she volunteered as a tutor/mentor for children struggling in school.

Kay was an active member at First Baptist Church, Meridian, until her move to Covington, LA in 2020. She moved her letter to First Baptist Church, Covington, where she was welcomed with open arms and made many new friends. Kay was very witty and full of life! She loved to shop and decorate and was very crafty and artistic. She instilled her faith and values in her children and grandchildren. Hers was a life well lived.
